Hunger Moved In
.
.
Depression

By André de Korvin

.

Hunger moved in
with its truck loads of sleepless hours.
It went to bed with many children.
They said economy was real depressed.
Bureaucrats blamed telephone poles
for staring at the moon,
blamed the moon
for being tardy,
blamed the wind
for being stubborn.
From tall buildings you could see people
lying prone in parking lots
and you imagined their deaths as
pale stars falling on the black
asphalt of poor neighborhoods
and you saw their bodies as
footnotes, as asterisk markers shining
at the bottom of a story
no one wanted to read.

Reading Music Leaves
.
(Ben Heine © Cartoons)
.
A poem by Andre de Korvin

Bad music couldn't sit still anymore
so it stood and
started walking, stumbling
like a drunken sailor.
These weren't the beautiful songs
written by people who thought
pianos had wings,
this was guts and guns music.
It was bound to explode
against the surface of progressive thinking,
bound to splatter, like oranges
thrown by angry policemen
at a convention of poets signing
iambic peace petitions.
Those oranges were red
so some warned
there would be pools of blood
wherever you stood.
