Since 2013, Ben Heine's Pencil Vs Camera concept has become popular in primary and secondary schools worldwide. Heine was quickly contacted by art teachers and schools requesting to use and teach his techniques to their students. They are showing them Heine's creative process through pedagogical worksheets and ask students to do similar images to stimulate their imagination, train their drawing and photography skills, encourage them to use new technologies and motivate them to share ideas and communicate. Heine's work also allows teachers to discuss the differences between observational and imaginative drawing with the art class. The students either create their own artworks from scratch or use Heine's images with the sketch removed to have something to start with (see below).
Since Heine's creative techniques became part of art lessons in many primary and secondary schools, different art lesson plans giving instructions on how to use his concept are spread by schools and art teachers on the Internet in France and in the United Kingdom (see some examples below). Heine has also given frequent interactive conferences to schools in Canada. In June 2014, one of the classes studying Heine's concept in Belgium (Katholieke Centrumschool Denderleeuw) visited his studio in Rochefort (more info).

Ben Heine a lancé un concept et une méthodologie d'enseignement artistique en 2010 intitulé "Pencil Vs Camera" qui mélange la photographie et le dessin de manière créative. Plus d'infos.
Ce concept a rapidement fait le tour du monde et est devenu populaire au point de toucher de nombreuses écoles du primaire et du secondaire un peu partout dans le monde. Plus d'infos.
Ce concept parle vraiment aux jeunes et offre de nombreux avantages: Il stimule leur imagination, il développe leur expression artistique, il les encourage à utiliser les nouvelles technologies et les motive à partager, communiquer et commenter leurs idées. Les élèves peuvent le découvrir et le pratiquer au travers d'ateliers distincts ou en association à d'autres cours (de langue, d'histoire, de géographie, de mathématiques etc). La méthode est devenue, en quelques années, une partie intégrante des cours de nombreux professeurs. Plus d'infos.
Ce projet pédagogique attractif a déjà fait ses preuves à de multiples reprises et il est déjà mis en place à l’international en partenariat rapproché avec des écoles au Canada, en France, en Angleterre, en Chine, en Equateur et en Belgique. Plus d'infos.
Cette méthode permet entre autre aux professeurs (d'art mais aussi de morale, de religion, de philosophie, d'informatique, de langue etc) de discuter en classe des différences entre la fiction et la réalité, entre le dessin figuratif et imaginatif, de l'utilisation des nouvelles technologies, de la photo, du dessin ; d'ouvrir des débats avec les élèves de manière ludique et accessible sur des thématiques importantes, d'analyser leur processus de création... Le projet vise à d'aborder les notions centrales de créativité et d'imagination en tant que compétences spécifiques dans les pratiques communicationnelles des élèves en proposant une expression artistique unique et novatrice mélangeant photo et dessin (en ayant recours notamment aux supports numériques) et basées sur l'expérience des élèves ou des thématiques concrètes. L'élève est placé au centre de son apprentissage. L'idée est donc de partir du vécu des élèves et de leur vision et faire de la pédagogie "expérientielle" sur des thèmes d'actualité ou de société. Plus d'infos.
Après la production artistique de l’élève et/ou de l'enseignant, les élèves mettront leurs travaux en commun afin d’en parler et d'apprécier leur effet et les différentes interprétations qui en découlent. Plus d'infos.

Exhibition at The Event Lounge, Exhi-B (Brussels)
An awesome collective exhibition (via Exhi-B) with an electro after party that happened the 11th of October 2013 at the very trendy and prestigious Event Lounge in Brussels, Belgium. Show at Images Photo Club (The Hague) .
I gave an interactive presentation about my work at "Images Photo Club" in The Hague, The Netherlands, in June 2013. I really enjoyed meeting the local photographers, talking about my current/future creative projects and sharing experiences!
