I just spent a few days working on some new abstract paintings on large canvases. I wanted them to be very colorful, spontaneous and decorative. Here is one of them (70 x 90 cm). I love flashy colors and heavy textures!

If you wish, you can see some details of the above image HERE
.

I applied each grey circle individually on a black background. The whole portrait took me several days of work (please, also see the making).

Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara) was a British musician, best known as the lead vocalist and a songwriter of the rock band Queen. As a performer, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and powerful vocals over a four-octave range.

"Digital Circlism" is a new technique I'm developing. I'm gonna make many other portraits in this style.

You might ask, what exactly is Digital Circlism ? This is a modern artistic expression, a mix between Pop Art and Pointillism. It is made with digital tools (this is just a personal definition).

In my opinion, the most important thing to focus on before starting that kind of project is to understand the dynamic movement of someone's face. I usually paint each circle individually on a black surface with a sharp round brush in Photoshop CS4 (it could be any other graphics creation software).

It is also essential to pay attention on the aspect of each circle (changing slightly the size and color for every circle is always better). That's the difficult part, because there can be several thousands circles in a single portrait. It has to be done with harmony, according to the main lines and dynamism of the subject represented.

I usually make bigger circles in the lighter areas of the subject and smaller circles in the darker places. This gives more volume and a 3D illusion. There is no limit, it's a new technique and I think there is much more to do with it.

This is a portrait of my fiancée (see the full version below), she is my fire, my muse, my daily source of energy, she is a gift! I'm so grateful to have her. This is a full painting made with circles only (very time consuming work).

FYI, the next persons I'm going to portray with this new circlist style are (in no specific order): Johnny Depp, Freddie Mercury and Elvis Presley... So please come back again.

A recent manipulation...

Will You Ever Sing

By Peter S. Quinn

Will you ever sing
Like the bird in a tree,
That the sunshine can bring
Inside to me -;
All is pleasurable now
With much wondering ways,
We will manage somehow
To get it through these days.

There is winter outside
Often it is much fun,
When the sully moods hide
And the shadows are on run;
Bring though again spring
For I feel more pleasure,
Happiness is an inside feeling
Perhaps the truest treasure.

Will I ever have more
Then I have with this all,
I should have said thereinbefore
Less is less and that is small;
Let there be sunshine
Before this day is gone,
It would be according to a line
I recently have done.

Each Life is
Like a Flower

By Peter S. Quinn

Each life is like a flower
With leaves of green and yellow
And in the rain shower
They become quite mellow
Like dreams that are going by
Or flickering flames by night
The open reddish evening sky
That falls away its light

When love is in our heart
There is so much there going
From the beginning it'll start
To give of its tender flowing
You become with flames about
And feelings that inside glow
For all the fire will be out
Like streams of a river to grow

When all is done you feel inventive
Like grass that sways in wind
And to the world assentive
So tender out sided skinned
With closeness to a life you are
And deliberated with roses
Each night you drift alone with a star
As love again to you apposes

I made these some 6 years ago when
I was living in Hastings, England.

My Mother's
Womb

.
.
Before I Knocked
.
By Dylan Thomas (*)

Before I knocked and flesh let enter,
With liquid hands tapped on the womb,
I who was as shapeless as the water
That shaped the Jordan near my home
Was brother to Mnetha's daughter
And sister to the fathering worm.

I who was deaf to spring and summer,
Who knew not sun nor moon by name,
Felt thud beneath my flesh's armour,
As yet was in a molten form
The leaden stars, the rainy hammer
Swung by my father from his dome.

I knew the message of the winter,
The darted hail, the childish snow,
And the wind was my sister suitor;
Wind in me leaped, the hellborn dew;
My veins flowed with the Eastern weather;
Ungotten I knew night and day.

As yet ungotten, I did suffer;
The rack of dreams my lily bones
Did twist into a living cipher,
And flesh was snipped to cross the lines
Of gallow crosses on the liver
And brambles in the wringing brains.

My throat knew thirst before the structure
Of skin and vein around the well
Where words and water make a mixture
Unfailing till the blood runs foul;
My heart knew love, my belly hunger;
I smelt the maggot in my stool.

And time cast forth my mortal creature
To drift or drown upon the seas
Acquainted with the salt adventure
Of tides that never touch the shores.
I who was rich was made the richer
By sipping at the vine of days.

I, born of flesh and ghost, was neither
A ghost nor man, but mortal ghost.
And I was struck down by death's feather.
I was a mortal to the last
Long breath that carried to my father
The message of his dying christ.

You who bow down at cross and altar,
Remember me and pity Him
Who took my flesh and bone for armour
And doublecrossed my mother's womb.

(*) Dylan Marlais Thomas (1914 - 1953) was a Welsh poet. He is regarded by many as one of the 20th century's most influential poets. In addition to poetry, Thomas also wrote short stories and scripts for film and radio, with the latter frequently performed by Thomas himself. His public readings, particularly in America, won him great acclaim; his booming, at times ostentatious, voice with a subtle Welsh lilt, became almost as famous as his works. Read more.
