#OnTheDraw: Ben Heine illustrated Journey in Tenerife
Here are the final illustrations and some of the sketches I made during my 1 week journey in Tenerife, Canary Islands for Turismo de Canarias. You will also find in this post a selection of the best photos I took in different secret locations in the island as well as some backstage pictures showing my local partners (28 y Medio). It was a beautiful travel and a rich experience. All photos, drawings and sketches are copyrighted © 2014 Ben Heine. More information about the project can be found on www.onthedraw.travel.

Seoul by Night

A selection of photos I took in downtown Seoul, South Korea, a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed walking by night in the streets of the Gangnam district and visiting Seoul Tower (236m high). I was truly impressed by the beauty, height and style of every building in the city. I travelled to Seoul for a solo exhibition (view the photo report about this event at this link). I took all the photos in this blog post with the new Samsung Galaxy NX Camera.

A picture I took at Venice train station some time ago. Read more about the "Orient Express" here below... The above photo has been shot with the Samsung NX11, provided by Samsung Electronics. Co., Ltd.
A landmark moment in railway history, October 1883 saw the launch of the original Orient Express. Leaving from Paris, it steamed through the Alps, Budapest and Bucharest to Constantinople. Packed with grandees and unheard of luxuries such as soap by the washbasins, reports swiftly came back of its exquisite food, excellent wine and impeccable service. This legendary train continued to carry kings, celebrities and shady characters between great European cities up until its 1920s heyday. Many of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express's current carriages date from this era (read more).

More facts: The Republic of Cape Verde is an island country, spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands located in the central Atlantic Ocean, 570 kilometres off the coast of Western Africa. The islands, covering a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres. The previously uninhabited islands were discovered and colonized by the Portuguese in the 15th Century, and became an important location in the Atlantic slave trade due to their geographically advantageous position. The islands' prosperity often attracted pirates including Sir Francis Drake, who twice sacked the (then) capital Ribeira Grande, in the 1580s. The islands were also visited by Charles Darwin's expedition in 1832.
Cape Verde has a rich cultural heritage influenced by continents like Africa, South America and Europe. This heritage is reflected in the country's literature, poetry, cuisine, its dance and its famous national song, the Morna, represented worldwide by the famous Cesária Évora.
