A quick sketch showing the great singer Cesária Évora flying above her island in Cape Verde, Western Africa (if you wish, you can view some details here). Cesária Évora is a Cape Verdean popular singer, nicknamed the "barefoot diva" for performing without shoes. She is perhaps the best internationally known practitioner of a mournful genre of blues music known as "Morna". Morna is based on the Portuguese fado and features bluesy vocals set against a background of acoustic guitars, fiddles, accordion, and cavaquinho, which is a small, four-string guitar. Évora has been described as a cross between Edith Piaf and Billie Holiday.

A selection of my creations ("Pencil Vs Camera" and "Digital Circlism", printed in limited editions) were exhibited from the 15th of March till the 12th of May 2011 at the Bank Delen, a famous private bank in Belgium.

A drag queen I met in a street of Florence, Italy, a few days ago.
He was really expressive and had giant "Queen cards" on his hat.

More facts: The Republic of Cape Verde is an island country, spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands located in the central Atlantic Ocean, 570 kilometres off the coast of Western Africa. The islands, covering a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres. The previously uninhabited islands were discovered and colonized by the Portuguese in the 15th Century, and became an important location in the Atlantic slave trade due to their geographically advantageous position. The islands' prosperity often attracted pirates including Sir Francis Drake, who twice sacked the (then) capital Ribeira Grande, in the 1580s. The islands were also visited by Charles Darwin's expedition in 1832.

Cape Verde has a rich cultural heritage influenced by continents like Africa, South America and Europe. This heritage is reflected in the country's literature, poetry, cuisine, its dance and its famous national song, the Morna, represented worldwide by the famous Cesária Évora.

Pull Me to Your Heart

.
A poem by Peter S. Quinn

Pull me to your heart
...From love that’s inside
Morning where feeling start
As the clouds away glide
This is every dream
In between our lines
Where love like sun seem
In everyday sunshine’s

Like a robe you are
Wonderment of feeling
Flickering dream star
All my heart you are stealing
Put my touch to you
In as you where before
Pull my love there thru
To your daydreams shore

Pull me to your dream
Where reality is not
And shadows all faraway seem
In our own vision’s spot
So much is gone of past
Like our stars falling
Let those dreams be colorfast
As they were before calling

Here is my photo report of the meeting at the European Parliament (Brussels) between representatives of the Braives municipality, Belgium (a very important place in my heart) and several European deputies. The gathering was meant to improve the relationship between Braives and European institutions. This is actually something really new and amazing that might have huge repercussions for many little cities in Europe. See my artistic photos taken in Braives.
